The little dabs of paint were the basic building blocks arranged, rearranged and mixed by the imagination of the artist to transform blank canvas into the landscapes and portraits that timelessly illuminate the human condition. At mediatechnologies, we like to think of our furniture in the same way.

No, we do not presume that our work is on par with the great masters of history. We do not aspire to create the envelope-pushing masterworks of the 21st Century. The philosophy of mediatechnologies is to provide the highest quality and most useful, mixable, reusable, repurpose-able and flexible “dabs of paint” for the artist to imagine and create their spaces. We have designed our furniture palette to be the building blocks (really high quality building block, by the way) for the “anyspaces” you have yet to create.

It includes seating, table and worksurface, all sorts of casegoods and storage solutions that are designed to help you realize the student-centered learning spaces within the boundaries of your learning spaces. Commons

A Learning Commons is a space designed to bring students together in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment to learn, share and integrate their experiences. Our anyspace Commons brochure is designed to provide you with useful ideas for populating commons spaces to meet the diverse abilities and learning styles of your individuals, teams and groups.

Comfortable furniture for both individuals and for group study is de rigueur for today’s commons space. Plus, users also need to be able to arrange and “customize” the space to meet their immediate needs. Our range of lounge and mobile furniture gives you loads of possibilities that will keep your commons space fresh and functional for years to come.

mediatechnologies can help you plan and integrate power and connectivity options in many of our furniture items so your users can be connected as individuals or as a group. We offer many in-surface and external connectivity options.

Café/Cafeteria

In both education and in the work place, the cafeteria/café/break room spaces are designed to bring students and co-workers together in a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment to work, study, relax, share and integrate their experiences.

The transformation of the school cafeteria from a “place to eat your lunch” to a “cool place to hang out” has made the cafeteria a “place to be”. Students want to hang out there. The restaurant feel of many of these new spaces makes students want to hang out a little longer. Benefits that schools are realizing from greater participation in the cafeteria space are increased revenue from the food service area and the disappearance of the stigma for free and reduced lunch program students.

The cafeteria-commons provides a comfortable, relaxed, quiet space for social interaction, study or just a place to “un-plug.” It is also frequently employed as an extension of the classroom. Users of your space will need to be able to arrange and customize the space to meet their immediate needs. Flexibility and mobility are key ingredients of a multi-use facility.

Classroom

Instruction. Inquiry. Experience. Learning.

“Classroom” applies to a general group instruction/learning area. As classrooms are being reimagined and adapted to different styles of instruction and different styles of learning, the one-size-fits-all classroom of the past century is beginning to disappear. The term Learning space has begun to serve as a more accurate representation of the educational movement today.

Learning spaces can take on many different personalities depending on the instructional style and personalities of the groups that use them It can be designed for lecture or as a “flipped” classroom. This area can be located in an enclosed space or room or in an open area, in a dedicated area or in a convertible space.

In a school environment it should be flexible enough to accommodate the maximum number of students that could use the space at one time. Classrooms are a often multi-use areas - used for community meetings, other organizations and clubs. Mobility and reconfigurability are key elements to consider in addition to media and connectivity possibilities and various storage options.

Makerspace

Collaborate. Network. Play. Invent.

The makerspace is a place for collaborative experimental play, hands-on participatory learning, knowledge networks, invention, technology, community, project-based interaction…etc.

In many iterations of this space, groups gather and create with a 3-D printer. In most cases, the nature of the Makerspace will be defined by the types of groups using it. Uses can range from the 3-D printer example to craft groups to seminars and instruction. It is a space that should be very flexible and adaptable to regular reconfiguration.

Work surfaces and seating that feature flexibility and mobility are key requirements. User groups may have different configurations each time they meet. Adequate and appropriate storage is another requirement. Makerspaces can (and do) take many forms. Our anyspace Collection can help create the space that is right for you and your users.

Administrative Spaces

Administrative spaces have some pretty basic requirements that revolve around the concepts of communication, collaboration, organization and storage. It also doesn’t hurt if the furniture looks great too.
